And odd question, but what are the best basic viewers for Super 8mm? I'm looking for one that is not motorized, that has a good lighting system and excellent prism. I'm not looking for a motorized editor, but if they costs the same, Then I suppose it doesn't matter.

I have a Minette S-5. I think it was the best viewer made by human beings. They aren't cheap 250 dollars. Call Irv Higdon he will set you up with any viewer really.

Thanks for the info! I'll have to check those out! I'd buy from Irv, he's a great guy, but I'm planning to rip the winders off, the the entire back and viewer and . . . well I'm going to take the whole thing apart really. So I don't need a well tested machine.

I have a Vernon editor, and it lasted through all 250 rolls of hand editing Lost Tribes without any problems whatsoever!
Still like brand new.

I just want to see if I can rebuild it to work the same way that the Goko TC-20 works. I figure that if the light is okay and the prism is excellent, then I can pull the back off and replace one of the mirrors and the screen with a condenser lens. I just want to see if it will work. I plan to use my motorized gang sync as a way to move to the film at 24fps crystal sync.

The best I know is the HKS projectorette. It works with direct projection on a screen, providing a very sharp image. All other components are external, like winding arms etc. It?s like a machine of a flat editing table.
Talking about more common editors, I like the ERNO M1801 and the GOKO MM1 (identical models with motor). They can be modified to work with my synchronizer and the lamp can be repalced with a halogen bulb. But as all prism viewers I know, the picture stableness is not suffient for a really good transfer. All prism viewers provide a slightly bouncing result.

Could you got into more detail about this bouncing thing? I have not noticed it with the Goko TC-20. I get a flicker at the top and the bottom (outside of the frame) where the facets merge, but that's about it.
